Clutch: And welcome to the new decade!
tFidy: What are we calling these first two decades in the 21st anyway? The 0’s and the teens? Or do we just lump the first two together and call them the “earlies” (pause) – what ? It’s a legitimate question that everyone rolls their eyes at, yet no one has an answer. Fans help me out here...
Shipwreck: In 2009 we came across a few cool things we’d like to share with you.
Clutch: Some are new, a few not so much…
tFidy: But in typical BiA fashion, they all are flying just slightly under the radar.
Shipwreck: In the world of movies – you gotta check out War Machine. It’s a take no prisoners commando movie that may remind of a few Real American Heroes that you know.

Clutch: Film creator Rene Perez was kind enough to sit down with us and do an interview which we featured in an issue of BiA a few months back. Look for it in our archives if you didn’t catch it the first time around.
tFidy: There’s also companion piece comic called “Bring the Pain” that goes along with it featuring a mute ninja and this drunken sailor and their adventures.
Shipwreck: Drunk??? What?? So the guy likes a couple of drinks? He helps that ninja out of more than one tight spot! Both are worth checking out.
Clutch: It’s well know what fans we are of the Mack Bolan adventure books by Golden Eagle Publishing – well they also make another series called Deathlands, which chronicles a team of adventurers in a post apocalyptic world in the 22nd Century.
tFidy: The books are hit or miss but the characters are pretty cool. Sci Fi Chanel did a movie which was pretty true to the mythos.

Shipwreck: The leader is this Snake Plissken look alike and his very hot, quasi mutant partner Kristi… who I might add did a stint on Charmed… it always comes back to Charmed!
Clutch: That’s great Ship, but did you notice that Tracy Lords is in this?
tFidy: Is that the Tracy Lords who did all the…
Shipwreck: Yeah that one! She plays the ‘evil step mom’ in this one. She’s still bringing it, although we don’t see as much of her as we used to.
Clutch: If you are a fan of the novels don’t be a continuity geek and nit pick. If you’ve never read them, you can jump on to the movie without any problem.
tFidy: There’s tons of stop action movies out on YouTube and elsewhere for 3.75” action figs, but not much for our bigger brothers in 1:6 scale.

Shipwreck: “Storm Cloud” came out a year or two after 911 and although the movement is quite as crisp as it’s modern counterparts, it’s still worth seeing.
Clutch: There’s a lot of cool figs in this pic. No true Joes, but some nice BBI and Cy Girl figs that all the 1:6 collectors loved at that time.
tFidy: Decent plot and I think they may have borrowed some of the background music from some of Ms. Lords earlier films… “hi I’m here for the mission brief…" bow chick bow-wow
Shipwreck: This film is pretty hard to find these days. There’s allegedly a sequel out there, but we haven’t located it yet. If any fans have it, please let us borrow for a screening.
Clutch: We are pretty pissed off about the state of comic books these days. Either the art is downright awful, or the book is part of some major event that forces us to buy more books than we have the time and money for.
tFidy: If any of the major publishers are reading this, let me tell you, comics that fall into either of those categories we just don’t read and advise other fans to do the same!
Shipwreck: That’s right Fids, we’re not taking it anymore!
Clutch: There are a few books we are into at the moment – Dark Avengers by Marvel for one. It’s a concept that’s been done before – villains masquerading as heroes, but with their own agenda. We saw it in Thunderbolts and the Phoenix Guard over in the Joe books.

tFidy: The character interaction is great. Many issues start with the team sitting around the breakfast table BS’ing… it kinda reminds me of the “360” in That 70’s Show… except no one’s high… well except for Venom who is highly medicated… and Norman “Iron Patriot” Osborn, who is either high or crazy…not sure which.
Shipwreck: It’s a well know fact, and I’m not going to make any apologies about it, I’m a big fan of Archie Comics. An event that got a lot of press this year was he finally choose Veronica (can you blame him?) and they got married. Is this the end of Archie and his 60 year run in high school?

Clutch: But after 3 issues of living the good life with V, Arch goes back in time and chooses Betty!
tFidy: What? Archie can create alternate time lines? There are those out there who believe that Archie grew up to be Cobra Commander, but I’m thinking he became the time lord Kang the Conqueror!

Shipwreck: That could explain his over half a century in high school!
Clutch: Look at Veronica and Reggie in the background of issue 603 – tell me they don’t become Cobra Commander and the Baroness!
tFidy: That’s all we got for now. I gotta go pick up my tux at the rental place for New Year’s eve...
Clutch: Dude we just watching the Ball drop on TV, no need to get decked out.
Shipwreck: We Out!
Clutch: Peace!!
Is War Machine available on Netflix?
